Up There

In the same way adidas Originals have merged the perfect amount of heritage classic with contemporary with past releases like the EQT 93/17, they’re back at it again celebrating 15 years of Climacool.

What better way to do so than to give us a little bit of old and new, with a re-issue of the Climacool 1, and something a little newer with the Climacool 02/17. The pack brings the traditional white climacool mesh with all of its freshly chilled breathability. The Climacool 1 pays respect to the past with a classic rendition featuring black and red accents, whilst the Climcaool 02/17 takes a completely new shape. Still a Climacool at heart the 02/17 is manipulated into a sleek new sock like silhouette with the breathable cage becoming part of the stabiliser within the midsole.

Both pairs will release this Friday the 21st of July from our Lower Grounds Store located in the basement of our 15 McKillop Street location. Both pairs US8 through to US12 (including half sizes) with the Climacool 1 for $210, and the Climacool 02/17 for $150.

Winter has to be one of my favourite times of the year. Yes, it’s cold, wet and generally miserable for the most part, but for me it means I can start layering up! Maybe if I still lived in Queensland and could get away with wearing close to no clothing year round I’d be singing a different tune.

After years of being spoilt for choice and having my clothing collection grow into multiple cupboards, I’ve now learnt to be very selective in what I buy each season. Stylistically I try and keep it fairly minimal but always with a point of difference in there somewhere, and of course, comfort is king!

With the introduction of Kapital to our brand list, I’ve adopted their Ring Coat as my favourite jacket year round, for this outfit I’ve gone with the Katsuragi Cotton in Black. Underneath that I have my Twill Ribbed Pullover from Tender Co., worn over the top of an Indigo Robes Badger shirt. The knit has been overdyed in a mixture of Fermented Indigo and Tumeric, one of the oldest known recipes to create Khaki. The research and detail that goes into every Tender Co. item is crazy, hence why it has been a store favourite for years!

Down below I’ve gone with the Pant De Travail from French brand Bleu De Paname. These Indigo patchwork pants are unbelievably comfortable, nice and loose through the leg, with a nice weight to them. And then finally, courtesy of Converse, I’m all about the resurgence of the One Star. I don’t have enough variations of the One Star in my closet yet, but with the upcoming releases there will be an abundance. With the cooler weather only really starting to kick in, make sure you come in store and let us help you see out Winter in comfort!

Winter is definitely my favourite time of year. This is mainly due to the multitude of options available when getting dressed for the day, a lot of which is dependent on melbourne’s ever changing and often temperamental weather patterns. It gives us a chance to pull out some statement and investment pieces that spend the majority of the year buried at the back of our wardrobes.

I tend to keep things reasonably simple and adopt a less is more approach to what I wear. Classic colours, simple lines and nothing too flamboyant. I’m a sucker for a white button down shirt and I think everyman should have multiple in his repertoire. In this outfit I have opted for an Engineered Garments 19 Century BD Shirt in a White Cotton Oxford, as far as quality and fit goes these are unbeatable. With a slightly looser and elongated hem, they put a nice twist on a classic oxford.

Layered over the top is a Norse Projects Sigfred Marino Knit in Navy. Majority of my wardrobe is some shade of navy or blue so this piece was a no-brainer and it pairs nicely with my new pair of Aprix Suede Low. Aprix are a new brand for the store and I already love them, nothing beats a clean, basic sneaker that can be dressed up or down, perfect for all occasions.

With Melbourne’s weather being as unpredictable as it is, a nice coat that can be layered and keeps you dry is essential. It’s hard to go past Hancock VA when it comes to rainwear, their classic and elegant silhouettes add a touch of class to any outfit. This time around I’ve gone for my Article 56 in the Fawn/Mastic colourway.

I’ve decided to keep it reasonably casual on my bottom half with a much loved pair of OrSlow 105 Standard Denim, 2 Year Wash. Previous to purchasing my first pair of these, I had always struggled to find the perfect pairs of jeans, but I haven’t looked back since. They have a great relaxed cut through the leg and a medium rise in the waist. They are also a great length in the leg, which is a tall order for us vertically challenged folk.

Every year I head to Paris and New York in the middle of January for our buying trip with James. I love this trip for a number of reasons, and one of the biggest is escaping the Melbourne summer heat for the cool northern hemisphere winter! It’s tough to come back from these trips for a number of reasons, but one of the biggest is knowing I’ll have to wait about four months to wear a proper jacket again!

The further we get into the start of each year the more I look forward to pulling out my favourite type of clothing, winter clothing. I love jackets, and heavy shirts, warm socks, wool pants, fleece and beanies, so I have combined a few of my favourites currently in store for a winter outfit edit. Up top I have layered Indigo Robes, 3sixteen & Engineered Garments. A few layers are important this time of year as we aren’t too deep into Winter and if you can catch some sunshine over lunch time you won’t need the heaviest of jackets. Just a quick note on the 3sixteen flannel because it’s dope. Super soft hand feel, thick fabric and great buttons, whats not to like? I’ve paired this with Engineered Garments Track pants and Viberg's classic Boondocker boot. I love the fit of these pants and the fact they are fleece, yet still look smart enough to wear daily makes them pretty damn hard to pass up! The Boondocker is one of Viberg's classics and we have these in stock year round. More casual than the service boot, these are for the everyday man. Two of my favourite accessories right now are the cushion rings form Tom Wood (i’m wearing the gold top) & the heavy cable knit beanies from Inidigo Robes, which i am wearing in the wool variation.

Overall this is a pretty typical outfit for me. I’m a pretty relaxed guy and I like clothes that are hard wearing, versatile and most of all comfortable.

It seems like nothing can slow down the momentum of the NMD, It’s been almost two years since the Boost and Primeknit (and sometimes mesh) silhouette took the lifestyle category by storm and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

adidas have pulled through yet again with another two striking make-ups of the CS2. For this latest take, the innovative runner receives a bold Red and refined Black/White Primeknit upper with a cheetah-like pattern embroidered across the one-piece upper. Decorative black stripes adorn the vamp and inner panel, while hits of red, white and black make their way onto the sock collar and midsole plugs. To top it all off, the Three Stripes equips the futuristic shoe with a crisp white BOOST sole and a tonal black outsole.

The two variations come to us in sizes US7 through to US13 (including select half sizes) and will be available for $270.

The Three Stripes have also delivered two new colourways of the ever popular NMD_R2, but this time it’s something for the ladies. The cutting edge low-top runner receives a subtle Wonder pink and clean Running white Primeknit upper with a cheetah-like pattern embroidered across the sock-like upper. Progressive, premium and pioneering, the NMD is streetwear that's relevant for today. These women's iterations merge streetwise style with the latest adidas technologies.

New Balance 574 Sport

7/10/2017 10:35 AM

It has already been a busy year for New Balance, after unveiling two brand new silhouettes in the form of the 247 and 1978. The Boston based behemoths are back to announce yet another impressive new model, the 574 Sport. Much like the 247 and 1978, the 574S features an updated modern shape and construction with obvious nods to the brand’s rich heritage and undeniable history.

One of the brand’s all-time best selling models, the 574 initially launched in the late 1980’s and has since become a mainstay in the New Balance retro runner catalog. This new update features the sneaker you know and love with a few significant upgrades designed to bridge the gap between lifestyle and performance. The most notable being a sock-like fit around the tongue, there is also a geometric midsole pattern, which creates varied compression zones and increases the shoe’s stability.

The first delivery on the new 574S comes to us in two minimal and refined colour ways. Premium off-white and black suedes make-up the upper with hits of technical mesh. All finished off with that geometric midsole pattern and a subtle flash of fire engine red.

The 574 Sport makes its public debut this Saturday 15th July from 11am at our Lower Grounds Store, Basement level, 15 McKillop Street.

New Balance have delved into their extensive archives and produced a subtle yet striking rendition of the timeless 520. Stepping away from their coveted neutral and speed running retro line to bring back some of their more casual-minded offerings.

The aptly named “Hairy Suede” Pack is a perfect option for anyone wanting to skip over the current dad-wave style of the NB 990 for a different vintage aesthetic. Both pairs sport suede so hairy you might mistake it for terrycloth at first glance. The colorways come in either classic Navy or Off-White with pre-yellowed midsoles, a lightweight nylon base, and additional leather on the heels for a timeless option on a model that New Balance rarely resurrects.

The U520AB and U520AC are available now in-store at Lower Grounds, Basement Level, 15 McKillop Street. As well as on www.lowergroundsstore.com.
