visvim began with footwear and expanded into a full wardrobe, but the approach has never changed. Hiroki Nakamura sources materials directly, works with craftspeople rather than factories where possible, and accepts the cost and the lead time that comes with it.

That means naturally dyed indigo, hand-woven cloth, vegetable-tanned leather and shell cordovan, and construction methods that require people rather than machines. It also means each piece varies. The colour of a naturally dyed garment shifts between production runs and continues shifting as it is worn.

The FBT is the most recognisable silhouette, a moccasin-construction shoe drawing on Native American footwear. The Virgil and Skagway sit alongside it, along with a deep apparel range covering outerwear, denim, knitwear and accessories.

Up There is the primary launch retailer for visvim in Australia.

Looking for something specific?

What is visvim?

A Japanese label founded in 2000 by Hiroki Nakamura, building footwear and clothing around natural materials, traditional craft processes and directly sourced fabrics.

Why is visvim so expensive?

Natural indigo dyeing, hand-woven cloth, vegetable-tanned leather and shell cordovan all cost far more than industrial equivalents, and much of the production requires craftspeople rather than machines. The pricing reflects the process rather than the branding.

Where can I buy visvim in Australia?

Up There is the primary launch retailer for visvim in Australia. The range is available online and in our Melbourne store.

What is the most well known visvim shoe?

The FBT, a moccasin-construction shoe with a fringed tongue drawing on Native American footwear. The Virgil and Skagway sit alongside it.

Do visvim pieces vary between production runs?

Yes. Naturally dyed garments shift in colour between runs and continue changing as they are worn and washed. That variation is intended rather than a fault.
