Paraboot is one of very few European shoemakers still producing in its original country at scale. The Norwegian welt it is known for is a construction where the upper is stitched outward and then through to the sole, creating a joint that is close to waterproof and can be resoled repeatedly.

The Michael is the reference model. A derby with a Norwegian welt, a tyrolean apron toe and a rubber sole, originally built for walking in the Alps and now the shoe the brand is best known for. The Chambord is its plainer sibling. The Clusaz has grown considerably in recent seasons.

These are shoes bought once. With regular conditioning and a resole every few years, a pair will outlast most of what sits above it in a wardrobe.

Sizing runs in French sizes and generally about a half size large. Most people take one size below their usual UK size.

Where are Paraboot shoes made?

In Saint-Jean-de-Moirans, France, where the company has produced since 1908. It is one of very few European shoemakers still manufacturing domestically at scale.

What is Norwegian welted construction?

A construction where the upper is stitched outward and then down through the welt to the sole. It creates a joint that is close to waterproof and can be resoled repeatedly. It is more labour intensive than Goodyear welting.

What is the difference between the Paraboot Michael and Chambord?

Both are Norwegian welted derbies. The Michael has a tyrolean apron toe with a visible raised seam and is the model the brand is best known for. The Chambord is plainer through the toe.

How does Paraboot sizing work?

Paraboot uses French sizing, which generally runs about half a size large. Most people take one size below their usual UK size. Contact us or visit the Melbourne store if you are unsure.

Can Paraboot shoes be resoled?

Yes, repeatedly. The Norwegian welt is designed for it, and Paraboot's own rubber sole units are available for replacement. A well-kept pair will last a decade or more.
