The N-1 deck jacket was issued to US Navy crews in the 1940s, built from tightly woven jungle cloth with a heavy alpaca pile lining. It was designed to be worn on deck in the North Atlantic, which tells you most of what you need to know about how warm it is.
The shape is short and wide, which puts it at odds with a slim trouser and completely at home with a wide leg or a pleated cut. The pile collar is the defining detail.
