BEAMS Plus keep going back through the U.S. military’s wardrobe, and this time they’ve landed on the Navy’s 1940s P-1941 coverall. BEAMS Plus have cut it down into a chore jacket and rebuilt it as patchwork, with panels in different depths of the same earthy family.
It’s a twill woven from naturally coloured cotton in a three-ply 20/3 yarn, combined with yarn treated with an iron mordant. The shade differences come from the materials rather than dye, and the Banshu-ori weave should keep developing with wear and washing. Pockets do the heavy lifting too: a chest pocket with a pen slot, and waist patch pockets with a zip pocket tucked inside. The cut runs slightly roomy and classic, so it layers easily over a tee, sweat or shirt.
