Panelled Hoodie - Powder Blue

For this season Nicholas Daley explores the legacy of Caribbean music legend and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte. Best know for his record-breaking "Calypso" – the first LP to sell over 1 million copies within a year – Belafonte is a civil rights activist, political activist and humanitarian. With this inspiration, Nicholas Daley delves into the iconic Calypso style which Belafonte's music exemplified.

By taking a classic hoodie and playing with proportions and fabric textures, Daley reworks a wardrobe staple with some retro flair. Although hoodies are generally standardised nowadays, as the style was coming into the cultural sphere plenty of designers were working out what a hoodie was. This slimmed-down shape with extra long cuffs and individual patch pockets looks like something you might see in a photo in the 1970s. The use of waffle knit cotton with the smooth fleece brings a nice textural elements to break things up.
