Any New Balance aficionado is likely to see exactly where NB was going with this one. About 10-15 years ago they were obsessed with mule-ifying their top-of-the-line running sneakers. We're not quite sure who the target demographic was, but the 99x series mules were a resounding flop at the time. Like anything though, time passed and NB mules have become a mythical legend.

Mercifully the New Balance design team listened to the "mulement" and sliced the back off their 2002R to create the beauties you see before you. You're not tripping, it's just that your eyes have never seen something so perfect – all of the wonders of a 2002R without expelling any effort to put them on. What a time to be alive!

Anyone familiar with NB lore will immediately recognise this colourway as that made famous by the 1300JP. Arguably the most famous actual colourway that NB employs, to see it on a mule-ified 2002R is something wondrous. We can't have imagined something like this being possible a decade ago.
