Description
The New Balance 860v2 has evolved into something of an oddity in New Balance's retro catalogue. As a model, the 860 continues to exist in NB's running catalogue, up to its thirteenth generation at this point. What makes the 860v2 special however is how it relates to the past few years of New Balance's strides in the lifestyle category.
Born in 2011, the 860v2 was a mid-tier stability running shoe which used a scaled-down version of the brand's flagship N-Ergy cushioning system. The full-length version was used for the flagship 1906 and 2002 models – two names you're no doubt familiar with. Sadly the full-length system was plagued with issues, so when it came time to reissue one of their 2010s gems, the 860v2 was picked due to the superior midsole.
The real kicker comes when New Balance decided to reissue the 2002, this time with the 860v2 sole tooling under the moniker 2002R. We all know how popular that shoe became, which has since been joined by the 1906R. Both shoes borrow their tooling from the little brother 860v2. New Balance honours the shoe which so bravely gave up the limelight for its more famous siblings by re-releasing the 860v2 in a pair of OG colourways.
