Michael x Engineered Garments - Cafe/Smoky Velvet
The ongoing partnership between Engineered Garments and French footwear manufacturer Paraboot continues to bear fruit. This time Daiki Suzuki added the EG flair to the iconic Michael shoe.
Originally released in 1945, the Michael was an oddity in the Paraboot line some 80 years ago but it now shares status as arguably the brand's most recognisable silhouette. the classic moccasin shape is contrasted against the chunky sports outsole which is secured with a masterful Norwegian welt system for storm-proof construction.
In true Engineered Garments fashion, Daiki flipped the Michael by playing with material mixes and unexpected details. For a change both shoes are symmetrical, with the smooth leather and velvet panels intersecting across the mid panel and heel. The distortion comes from the addition of D-ring lace loops from Paraboot's workwear styles. The hardware, normally spotted on mountaineering boots, contrasts against the functional elegance of the Michael's upper.
Yet another masterclass in restraint and quirkiness. We'd expect no less from Daiki Suzuki.
