Air Max 1 '86 PRM - Lt Smoke/Diffused Blue-Indigo Haze

Nike winds the clock further back after debuting the "Big Bubble" Air Max from 1986 at the beginning of 2023. The "Lost Sketch" Air Max ties to a drawing from the notebook of Tinker Hatfield as he was devising an idea for a shoe with visible Air unit. The "Lost Sketch" Air Max 1 delivers a first-ever look at what might have been – an alternate universe where the famous red and white of the Air Max 1 never came to fruition.

The most noticable addition compared to the eventual-release is the use of Nike's famous "Safari" pattern across the mudguard. This would debut alongside the Air Max 1 albeit on the Air Safari, so in a sense Tinker still got his way. Would the Safari have existed if not for the Air Max's pivot? We'll never know.

Alongside the incredible "Big Bubble" midsole tooling is a hand-drawn depiction of "AIR" which might have been an initial idea Tinker had similar to what sits on the Air Force 1's midsole. We think the final omission in place of letting the massive bubble take centre-stage was a good move.
