The RC30 draws from the storied New Balance back catalogue in ways that we honestly couldn't have imagined. The uppers are reminiscent of the brand's heritage boots, once sewn in the same Cumbrian factory where the 576, 1500 and other icons were born.
Wearing a pair of boots on the street isn't the most practical idea, though, so it's interwoven with some retro running DNA. The material combination is textbook for the '80s era with a mix of nylon and suede. The rippled sole is inspired by the 'Trackster' NB's first breakthrough runner of the 1960s. The toothed outsole runs the length of the shoe, evocative of the indoor shoes which dominated the casual scene in '70s and '80s. It flows up and over the side of the shoe, cresting at the mid-foot, echoing the flowing contours of the toebox.
Whilst they weren't designed to kick goals, if you find yourself in a scenario that can only be resolved with a game of one-on-one, you could do worse than front up in a pair of these.
