6mm Stone Bracelet - African Turqoise
Although Mikia makes many styles of jewellery, it's their beaded designs which they are best known for. Each piece is strung by hand in Japan using only the finest vintage and new beads in stone, glass and sterling silver. Through the use of natural stone and hand-made glass beads, each Mikia necklace and bracelet is unique unto itself.
This bracelet is made from medium sized 6mm stone beads in African Turquoise, accented Chrysocolla and a single Navajo Pearl. The hardware is cast from 925 Sterling Silver, with a sterling silver button to wrap the nylon cordage around for secure wearing.
African Turquoise: Turquoise in name only, "African Turquoise" is actually a jasper stone. It gets this name because of treatments that can change the colour of this stone to resemble real turquoise. In its natural form this jasper stone is as you see it here, with dark green/brown colour. This hard stone is perfect for bracelets in particular.
Chrysocolla: The name comes from ancient Greek χρυσός (chrysos) "gold" and κολλα (kolla) "glue" – in reference to it being used to solder gold. It has a cyan colour with elements of copper, giving a similar appearance to Turquoise.
Navajo Pearl: A solid sterling silver (925) bead that is formed in by technique by Indigenous American craftspeople of Navajo descent. This practice has been perfected over centuries and forms a central part of trade and culture for Navajo people. Adapted for consumption, the tradition of Navajo bead making remains a valuable skillset.
