Gel-Kayano 14 x JJJJound - White/White
Over the years, JJJJound designer Justin Saunders has mastered the art of creating products that seem like a no-brainer. This also seems to provoke divisive opinions amongst enthusiasts. It's a scenario summed up perfectly in Craig Damrauer's work from his series New Math which suggests: Modern Art = Yeah I could do that + Yeah but you didn't.
Working with ASICS to apply his ethos to the Gel-Kayano 14, the outcome is much what you might expect. Some will complain, others with fawn, but in the end they'll all be gone in no time...
Compared to the Black/White JJJJound Kayano, this one deviates a bit more from the original release. Materials are still true-to-original though; with de-bossed metallic silver overlays and the white open-pore mesh. This time however the black details are replaced for bright white, creating a different look with relatively few changes. The midsole also remains mostly white, with only a small off-white section. Perhaps the biggest visual change is the off-white outsole, which changes the shoe's stance considerably.
The collaboration is marked with a 'JJJJound' call-out in place of the model designation on the right shoe and the familiar JJJJound serif typeface printed on the insoles.
