Kapital Spring/Summer 2019

Hailing from the jean capital of Japan, Kojima, Kapitals' mastery of denim and menswear has ensured its stance as a formidable player within the menswear scene since its inception in 1984. The label reimagines mid-century Americana, utilising heritage production techniques to create designs which invoke an authentic workwear feel.

It is the brands unique approach to reimagining a time which has since passed us by, which so uniquely allows it to bring an eclectic aesthetic, and modern feel, to their meticulously crafted range of menswear.

With durability, and a want to be worn, at the surface of everything the brand produces, it is inevitable that pieces from the brands latest offerings will capture the attention of all — a mission they have successfully accomplished.

This season's knitwear is their most detailed to date, their three dimensional sweater is meticulously knit together with motifs of the Ainu people and their surrounding habitats. Continuing the coziness, Kapital give us their Fleecy Knit Zip Hooded Parka. Constructed using a 100% cotton sweat fabric and has been aged to resemble a vintage product With finite sashiko drawstrings and subtle washed indigo overdye.

Kapital Spring/Summer 2019

Kapital reimagine the classic tracksuit this season blending Japan's beloved souvenier 'Sukajan' style motifs amidst the embroidered tape that runs along the arms of the track jacket and legs of the track pants.

Moving on to this season's outerwear, we see three of Kapital's signature pieces return with the Katsuragi Cotton Ring Coat in Khaki, and Ringoman Coverall Jacket in Washed Denim. The trifecta includes a strikingly detailed sashiko print, and boro transfered Kamakura Jacket which of course can be worn almost a million different ways as seen here...

Rounding out this season's selections we've got the newest addition to the range with the relaxed cropped cozy goodness of the Shimokita Pant in Black and Khaki.

Kapital can be both found online and in store at Level 1/15 McKillop Street. For all of the finer details of their latest arrivals, continue reading after the jump.

Kapital FW18

Hailing from the jean capital of Japan, Kojima, Kapital’s mastery of denim and menswear has ensured its stance as a formidable player within the menswear scene since its inception in 1984. The label reimagines mid-century Americana, utilising heritage production techniques to create designs which invoke an authentic workwear feel.

It is the brands unique approach to reimagining a time which has since passed us by, which so uniquely allows it to bring an eclectic aesthetic and modern feel to its meticulously crafted range of menswear.

With durability, and a want to be worn, at the surface of everything the brand produces, it is inevitable that pieces from the brands latest offerings will capture the attention of all who have the opportunity to see and interact with them.

Pieces such as the ‘Ringoman Cargo Pants’ and ‘Ivy Western Shirt’ borrow heavily from the brands affinity for reimagined pieces from a time gone by, sat alongside for innovative designs in the form of the ‘IDG Fleecy Knit Sweat Pants’ and Kapital’s ever reliant ‘Katsuragi Napped Cotton Ring Coat,’ little doubt exists that the brand is perfectly suited to not only keeping you cozy through the colder months, but also ensuring that any, and all, fortunate enough to purchase one of their pieces will be turning heads out on the streets.

With stand out items in this season's offerings coming in the form of the ‘Kamakura Anorak Blouson 60/40 Cloth’ Jacket — a piece designed to be tailored and utilised in a multitude of forms, and fashions to suit the preference of its user — and the beautifully minimalistic ‘Jubbahn Shirt’ — which brings together a range of beautiful details including a dyed corduroy collar, and meticulously intricate sewn patches — we here at Up There are particularly excited by what Kapital has to offer, and buoyed by the opportunity to share the brands aesthetic and craftsmanship with you.

Winter has to be one of my favourite times of the year. Yes, it’s cold, wet and generally miserable for the most part, but for me it means I can start layering up! Maybe if I still lived in Queensland and could get away with wearing close to no clothing year round I’d be singing a different tune.

After years of being spoilt for choice and having my clothing collection grow into multiple cupboards, I’ve now learnt to be very selective in what I buy each season. Stylistically I try and keep it fairly minimal but always with a point of difference in there somewhere, and of course, comfort is king!

With the introduction of Kapital to our brand list, I’ve adopted their Ring Coat as my favourite jacket year round, for this outfit I’ve gone with the Katsuragi Cotton in Black. Underneath that I have my Twill Ribbed Pullover from Tender Co., worn over the top of an Indigo Robes Badger shirt. The knit has been overdyed in a mixture of Fermented Indigo and Tumeric, one of the oldest known recipes to create Khaki. The research and detail that goes into every Tender Co. item is crazy, hence why it has been a store favourite for years!

Down below I’ve gone with the Pant De Travail from French brand Bleu De Paname. These Indigo patchwork pants are unbelievably comfortable, nice and loose through the leg, with a nice weight to them. And then finally, courtesy of Converse, I’m all about the resurgence of the One Star. I don’t have enough variations of the One Star in my closet yet, but with the upcoming releases there will be an abundance. With the cooler weather only really starting to kick in, make sure you come in store and let us help you see out Winter in comfort!

After Kapital’s successful introduction to Up There last season, we’re delighted to walk you through our newest delivery from the Japanese stalwart. We welcome back probably the most popular Kapital jacket the Ring Coat, yes the one Drake wears, in Black and Khaki Katsuragi Cotton. Worn over the top of a popular classic, the Katmandu Patchwork Shirt in Indigo.

Kapital’s style portfolio is vast, which is exciting for us, it means that as we grow with the brand we will be able to introduce our customers to new styles and silhouettes each season.

Two new silhouettes for us this season are the Denim Ringoman Coverall One Wash and the Broad Cloth Anorak Shirt. The Denim Ringoman Coverall is made out of a 12 oz. indigo denim and features some very unique asymmetrical front pockets along with a slanted back pocket. Worn underneath the Coverall is the Broad Cloth Anorak Shirt which also features large pouch pockets on the chest. Inspired by vintage workwear, this shirt is made from a cotton broad cloth and has an exceptionally soft hand feel.

Rounding out the clothing selection we also have the Gauze Bonzu Hiyoku Shirt and the Jersey Crew Pocket Tee in Indigo which will fade and patina with wear. With any Kapital order it is always a must to order some of their Bandanas and Scarves. This season we ordered the Big Fringe Bandana Stole Paisley in Navy, the Selvedge Bandana with Chief print in Navy and Black and also the Bloom print in Navy and Black. If you want to be as steezy as Drake be sure to check out the collection in store and online now!

Hailing from the ‘Jean Capital’ of Japan, we’d like to formally welcome Kapital to the shelves here at the store. Based out of Japan’s old merchant town Kojima Kurashiki, Kapital strive to craft materials and garments that pay homage to their town’s heritage. Tying in a pertinent blend of vintage american workwear with remade, and reworked garments crafted at the hands of skilled artisans at their home base in Kojima.

This season’s range ties in classic ‘Sashiko’ stitching with the Century 5 Pocket Denim, and Century Westerner Denim Jacket. Covering the 12oz grey denim with an accenting straight indigo stitch ready to be worn in and worn out for years to come. A series of remade garments come in the shape of the Katmandu Patch Shirt, and Denim Western Shirt. Each shirt washed, and worn in before subtle pieces are shifted around each garment and patched in as a homage to the ‘boro’ technique of yesteryear. The patchwork themes continue Tugihahi Football Jersey blending patterned indigo fabrics with a charcoal melange cotton jersey.

Not forgetting Kapital’s signature Ring Coat, this season’s variation comes to us in a Khaki Katsuragi Cotton. This oversized piece of outerwear brings several garments together, and thanks to a number of buttons, ties, and fasteners, this innovative coat can be worn in more ways than one. Last but certainly not least, Kapital have delivered a selection of their Selvedge Bandanas with a Thunderbird and Concho designs subliminally printed on the classic fabric squares.

This season’s ranges from Kapital are now available in store at our Level 1/15 McKillop Street store as well as online. For a closer look at all of the finer details, continue reading after the jump.
