Converse X Brain Dead

Converse and Brain Dead come together on a capsule collection bringing Brain Dead's signature graphic designs and bold prints together with an archive of patterns mashed up atop the 1970's Chuck Taylor.

Converse’s first graphic pattern was introduced in 1983, a camouflage print applied to the Chuck Taylor All Star. Glow-in-the-dark animal prints followed in 1988, and a patriotic American Flag print in 1992. Brain Dead have taken to these archives mixing and matching them against the 1970's silhouette. These prints were mashed together to create a bold and energizing graphic statement that connects to designer Kyle Ng’s vision that his brand 'Is Not One Person, Nor Is It One Idea'.

The collection, anchored in Converse graphic prints, is interpreted across footwear, apparel and accessories, which are stylized as if they were a mix of fabrics and prints seen scattered on a factory floor. Each pair features asymmetrical screen printing on the upper and text detail on foxing tape that reads: ═×To see and be seen as far as the eye can see. Who Controls the Control Men.

Alongside the 1970's Chuck Taylor, sits a long sleeve and short sleeve duo of graphic tees.

The collection will release this coming Friday the 26th of October. Releasing from 11am at our Lower Grounds Basement 15 McKillop Street store. Remaining pairs will be available online later the same day.

The Chuck Taylor will be available in sizes US7 through to US12 (whole sizes only) for $140AUD.

Short sleeve tees will be $60AUD, and long sleeve tees $70AUD in sizes S to XL.

Until Friday, head on over after the jump for all of the finer details of the release...

Converse have come together yet again with JW Anderson. Taking to the iconic 1970’s Chuck Taylor with a series of felted wool. Up There X Saucony Grid 8000 Sashiko

Saucony is a brand that is steeped in rich history and is a company that has had an immeasurable amount of influence on the lives of young people all over the world. With the brands originality and quality maintaining a key focus within the Saucony shoe range; upholding the brands ethos of individuality and quality.

Up There prides itself on keeping our shelves stocked with the finest products from the best makers across the globe. Therefore the ‘Sashiko’ rendition of the Saucony Grid 8000 is something that incorporates only the finest materials from the leather and sashiko stitched upper to the debossed tongue tags, supple leather inner soles right through to the silver tipped waxed cotton laces.

This shoe is the definition of a well made article that is steeped in rich history and tradition. It is this history and tradition that lends itself to the overall theme behind the collaboration...Sashiko.

With the Japanese having a habit of making things that last a lifetime, Sashiko is one of the many ways a products lifespan can be expanded exponentially. Sashiko (literally "little stabs") is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching (or functional embroidery)from Japan. Traditionally used to reinforce points of wear or to repair tears with patches, this running stitch techniques often used for purely decorative purposes in quilting and embroidery. The white cotton thread on the traditional indigo blue cloth gives sashiko its distinctive appearance.

What better way to bring together two companies that believe in the production of articles that are made to endure, than to incorporate an ancient technique that itself has stood the test of time and whose purpose is to reinforce and repair.

The collaboration will be releasing exclusively at Up There Level 1/15 McKillop Street, Melbourne, Friday the 16th of February with retail set at $250. Remaining pairs will be available online after our in-store release.
