Air Max 1 PRM - Pecan/Yellow Ochre/Baroque Brown
Nike are no strangers to self-reference, indeed for the past few seasons they've loved nothing more than to grab an iconic colourway from the archives to rework onto a new silhouette.
To find inspiration, they travel back to 2001 in Japan for the famed co.jp release of the Dunk Low Pro B – a precursor to the phenomenon which would be Dunk SB. Nike created a trio of colourways, finished in rich suedes in tongues of Plum, Ceramic and Autumn Green. Collectively they were known as the Ugly Duckling pack.
That's the backstory, but if you know your Dunks then you might recognise that this colourway doesn't really correspond with any of the original 'Ugly Duckling' Dunks. So what's going on? These actually seem to reference a more modern Dunk Low released a few years back that was inspired by the original co.jp's from 2001. Named Dusty Olive they used the same materials and colour blocking to create a contemporary colourway. So is Nike essentially referencing a reference of a reference? Seems like it but we don't really care because they look great regardless!
