MT580RTB
The New Balance MT580 might just be one of the most impactful sneakers of the last 30 years – an odd statement to be making about a budget-conscious model. Initially launched in 1996, the original MT580 was designed to be a more affordable version of the Made in USA flagship M585. Comparative to the 585, the 580 was produced in Asia and available in Japan only.
After a steady start, the MT580 exploded in 1999 when New Balance Japan developed a unique partnership with Mita Sneakers, a retailer based in Ueno, and Real MadHECTIC, a Tokyo streetwear label. Together, NB and the Japanese partners created unique colourways of the MT580 and kickstarted a trend that completely changed the industry.
This mahogany brown pair plays off the colours of the classic "beef and broccoli" Timberland 6" boots which are part of New York street lore. The mesh upper is overlaid with buttery smooth nubuck, set atop a dark midsole to hide the dirt as you stomp through dirty Downtown streets.
